The Velveeta Revolution is still offering a $10,000 reward for whoever SWATted Brett Kimberlin on 31 May.
That leads me to ask this question: If Brett Kimberlin were the victim of a SWATting, why didn’t that come out at the 5 July Peace Order hearing? SWATting was brought up. Mr. Kimberlin denied that he was involved in any SWATting, but he never including SWATting among any of the forms of harassment he claimed to have suffered.
Aaron Walker has received a heavily redacted copy of the police report on his SWATting, and he has posted it here. He has not yet heard the recording of the 911 call, and the police say they will not release it until they have closed the case.
Sounds like the Prince William County police want to catch the SWATter.
Patterico reports that Aaron Walker was SWATted at around 6 pm ET this evening.
UPDATE—Breitbart has more info here.
Walker told Breitbart News that he was home with his wife this evening at approximately 6:00pm when there was a “pretty insistent” knock at his door. Walker answered to find about six police cars in the street and two officers taking positions against the wall with M4 rifles. Since he was aware of the previous swattings of Patrick “Patterico” Frey, Erick Erickson, and Mike Stack, Mr. Walker asked the police if someone had called and claimed he had killed his wife, and police confirmed that that was the case.
UPDATE 2—Still more at The Camp of the Saints. Apparently, someone is also trying to cause trouble for one of Aaron Walker’s lawyers.
UPDATE 3—Stacy McCain says:
Memo to The Washington Post: This is now what they call “local news.” Get on it.
Don’t hold your breath, Mr. McCain.
UPDATE 4—Aaron Walker posts What Happened Tonight.
One of the officers tonight asked me why I keep talking about Brett Kimberlin if it brings on this kind of trouble. It’s because Freedom of Expression is something I don’t just believe in, but I defend. And this threat to Freedom of Expression needs to be defeated. It is that simple.
When my wife was steadier, and our bellies were full, I opened up my computer again there were 720 new contacts of some kind in my twitter. That was the level of love and support out there. I am just stubborn enough not to need anyone’s prayers or support to see this through, but it’s nice to feel the love. So many perfect strangers tell me they are praying for me—although they are becoming less like strangers every day.
Finally, if anyone from the Washington Post or any other newspaper wants to talk to me, I’ll talk. I’ll give you an earful.
So the bottom line is that thanks in significant part to the Prince William County Police, who handled this with the right sweet spot between concern that a crime might be occurring, and caution, recognizing it might be a hoax, my wife and I are safe. A little shaken up, but determined to fight on.
Brett Kimberlin’s Lord Voldemort’s SWATting is described in a post at Breitbart Unmasked (no, I will not link to it).
In this case a number of people have been implicated in calling officials to come out to his home to check complaints which have been “called in” to various officials, complaints that there is a violent criminal in the home threatening people in which investigators were dispatched to the scene to “check out” what was going on. In one such instance investigators were called using a special routing number that is only available in select states that routes calls to first responders that are not emergency 911 calls; rather they are calls that determine who the call should be directed to, including but not limited to police and or swat teams. In one such call the operator thought the call was suspicious in nature, and instead of routing the call to its intended recipient which was the police, the call was routed to investigators to do a “check” of the property to see whether or not a violent actor was present and or threatening people. In the audio above this is just but one call that has taken place around the area of Brett Kimberlin. Some of these calls have been traced to a location in Florida, and one such call was located to a phone number registered to one Martin Maher, who has called repeatedly to Mr. Kimberlin’s home asking to speak to his children and others in the home so he can tell them what kind of person Mr. Kimberlin is. The FBI of course has been monitoring these calls and this traffic since these events were started by Mr. Frey and Mr. Aaron Walker. Other threats have also been noted since Mr. Aaron Walker became hyper focused on Mr. Kimberlin.
Yeah. Sure. Special routing number. Uh, huh.
There’s an audio clip that is alleged to be on someone calling one of the Dark Lord’s neighbors warning them about living near the Speedway Bomber. It would be interesting to know whose voice it really is.
The net is drawing tighter around the SWATter. Stacy McCain has a summary you should read.
The SWATter’s position is a bit like a Monopoly player’s who has landed on (irony) Indiana Avenue. The most likely roll of the dice is a seven. Let’s see … seven squares around from Indiana Avenue is … oh …
Juana Summers of Politico thinks SWATting is “an elaborate practical joke.” (H/T, Redstate)
Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death, is a man who deceives his neighbor and says, “Am I not joking?”
–Proverbs 26:19, 20
Da Tech Guy write on how ABC has scooped CNN on a story it should have owned. One of the Swattees (Erick Erickson) is a CNN commentator.
The post also has this good advice for the Swatter:
My advice for the Swatter whoever he might be, I’d strongly suggest turning states evidence NOW, because you can be sure that your friends will be throwing you under the bus as soon as they see any danger to themselves.
The heat’s on.
Senator Saxby Chambliss has taken notice of the Swatting and other harassment of bloggers and is demanding that the Department of Justice look into any federal enforcement angle. His press release is here. The text of his letter to Eric Holder is included. It ends:
While I am certain that local law enforcement is reviewing each of these instances, I am asking you to please look into each of these cases as well to determine if any federal laws may have been violated. Future targets of SWAT-ting, whether engaged in political speech or not, may not be so fortunate as to escape physical harm.
I appreciate your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your response no later than June 29, 2012. Please feel free to contact my office with any questions or comments that you may have.
This kind of response from a legislator is important. This blog will be participating in the Day of Blog Silence on Friday to encourage further Congressional interest.
UPDATE—Erick Erickson is one of Sen. Chambliss’ constituents.
UPDATE 2—ABC has picked up the story of the Senator’s request. And Drudge is linking to the ABC story.
UPDATE 3—ABC’s coverage has become a story in itself among conservative bloggers. The Other McCain, The Lid, Michelle Malkin, The Jawa Report, Mediate, Nice Deb, and Dan Riehl.
UPDATE 4–The Atlanta Journal-Constitution takes notice.
Patterico was on a podcast with Lee Stranahan last night when some called in twice claiming to be Mr. Frey’s swatter. Details and audio here. And on the same night that Erick Erickson was swatted.
Folks, things have now moved several notches past truly weird.
