It was 10 years ago today that I received my SWATting threat from Team Kimberlin. I had posted about Jeffery Cohen, the lawyer who, as Executive Director of Justice Through Music Project, was Brett Kimberlin’s nominal boss. That post received this comment—Of course, the comment was not from the blogger known as The Lonely Conservative. It was traced back to Bill Schmalfeldt. A second threatening comment claimed to be from Stacy McCain. Again, it was traced to Schmalfeldt.
Thank you for your threat. It means that the pseudo-butthurt that I could have been feeling (but wasn’t) for being ignored now has no basis. I’m not sure who you are, but I know that you’re neither The Lonely Conservative nor Stacy McCain.
Oh, and the folks at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office are looking forward to your call.
Six years ago today, I published a post about the person who was listed as the Executive Director of the Kimberlin not-for-profits, Justice Through Music Project and Velvet Revolution US (now renamed Protect Our Elections/EMPR Inc.). The post was titled Dread Pirate #BrettKimberlin’s Boss’ Day Job.

Court records show an email address for a Jeffrey R. Cohen who has the same street address as Justice Through Music Project. That email address is associated with the law firm of Millen, White, Zellano & Branigan. The firm’s web site gives this information about Mr. Cohen:
Our entertainment practice focuses on music, film and television. Because of our intellectual property expertise, we understand not only the finer points of contract terms but also the significance of the intellectual property issues at hand. Jeff Cohen heads this practice group. Jeff owns Sumerian Records and is a partner in an entertainment management company Outerloop Management.
Shortly after that post went up, it received this comment. Here was my reply.
As Bill Schmalfeldt likes to point out, 29 October, 2012, was the day Hurricane Sandy came ashore. Over the next couple of days, I was working with our local ham radio club in support of the shelters that been opened because of the weather. While at one of the shelters I shared the story of this lame SWATting threat with several deputies who it turned out were scheduled to work the evening shift on Halloween. We agreed that I’d have Halloween goodies set aside for them to take home to their kids if they were called to my house.
Of course, the person making the threat chickened out. Cowardly cowards gotta cower.
The Cabin Boy™ seems interested in writing about Karen who blogs as The Lonely Conservative.Seeing that tweet reminded me that the $1,000 reward I have offered leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who made the death threat against Karen. Karen received the threat against her within minutes of the time her name was signed to the SWATting threat I received on 29 October, 2012. The SWATting threat I received purporting to be from The Lonely Conservative, but was a forgery. I also received a forged email purporting to be from Stacy McCain from the same IP address within a few minutes of the SWATting threat.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire …
UPDATE—Pro Tip: Never try to outcrazy Stacy McCain.
Wow! I must have hit a nerve! I’m drinking my first cup of coffee for the day and looking through the overnight tweets in my Twitter timeline, and I’ve found eleven tweets from the Cabin Boy™ ranting about the latest Prevarication Du Jour post. He seems to want to recycle his entire set of specious arguments trying to disconnect himself from the SWATting threat I received.
The Cabin Boy™ may (or may not) remember that he has filed various lawsuits and counterclaims against me—and lost all of ’em. This matter is settled and not in his favor.
I was scrolling through one of the Cabin Boy’s™ screeds over at Liberaland (Yes, that’s an active link. Colmes runs a safe site.), and I saw something that looked familiar. It was the avatar of one of the pro-Cabin-Boy™ commenters. I went looking through some files, and, sure enough, I found another use of that avatar.
The use of the avatar shown on the left is from a comment made during the autumn of 2012 at a now-defunct website. The one on right is from the current Liberaland comments.
Hmmmm.
UPDATE—The Cabin Boy™ seems to think that I need to explain the provenance of the avatar on the left. I don’t.
First, if anyone in law enforcement wants to see the source documentation, they have but to ask. I will cheerfully assist them with their inquiry. Indeed, it may be that a copy of the source document is already in the hands of a law enforcement agency.
Second, Schmalfeldt knows when he was using the Liberal Grouch persona and the editor@liberalgrouch.com email address when he was commenting on blogs in late 2012. He knows where he made comments. And he can guess who gave me that information. What he doesn’t know is what else I have, and that should be a matter of concern for him and his associates.
The Cabin Boy™ is running out of straw men to argue against.
Taking the last bit first, it’s been demonstrated that the IP address in question was not associated during 2012 with the Brazilian website he keeps mentioning.
Schmalfeldt is also lying about the relative timing between when the SWATting comment was sent and damage from Sandy. As can be seen above, the comment came in at 12:29 in the afternoon. Sandy came ashore around 8 pm in New Jersey. Most of the damage to Baltimore Gas & Electric’s distribution system occurred north of Baltimore beginning in the late afternoon. (Howard County, which is south of Baltimore, was relatively lightly hit.) The Gentle Reader should also note that the Cabin Boy™ never claims that he lost either power or Internet connections, or, if he did, he never says when the loss occurred.
Oh, and one more thing …
The Cabin Boy™ says that he had abandoned liberalgrouch.com before the date the SWATting comment was sent. Yet, he was promoting it in his byline at Breitbart Unmasked on 30 October, 2012, the day after the comment was sent. Indeed, he continued to promote it in his byline there until 25 November.

Nothing in any of the versions of the Cabin Boy’s™ story lines up with the documented evidence. The Gentle Reader may draw his own conclusions.
Oh, one more thing …
I don’t have any record of uploading a copy of the the Application for Statement of Charges for the first round of complaints against the Cabin Boy™. As best as I can tell, I don’t even have a scanned copy of that document in any of my offline files.
Maybe I’ll dig the paper copy out of the filing cabinet in the attic and scan and post it, but I’m not in any hurry.
