Back in the ’70s, Brett Kimberlin ran a health food store as money laundry for his wholesale drug dealing. There is some evidence that he actually believes in dietary quackery, and that my explain why he set up the citizensagainstgmo dot com website. One of the most promising genetically engineered crops that has become available over the past decade or so is golden rice. It has been modified to produce beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A. This is an important innovation for the third world where where vitamin A deficiency kills upwards of 600,000 children under 5 each year.

It is also a major bête noire of the anti-GMO food crowd.

Over the past decade, there were times when there were nearly two dozen Kimberlin-related web domains in operation. While The Dread Deadbeat Publisher Kimberlin still has a few going, most have failed. The TKPOTD from two years ago today announce one of those failures.

One of the wacko moonbat causes Brett Kimberlin has tried to promote on the Internet is the campaign against GMO food. He had a website called citizensagainstgmo dot com. I say “had” because he allowed the registration to lapse earlier this summer after not having posted anything new on the site for several years.

The domain has been reregistered by a Chinese company. Don’t go there even if you have extremely robust antivirus protection. The thumb drive containing the OS I used to take this screenshot has been destroyed rather than risk using again.Another one bites the dust.

Why does these people hate poor children living in the third world?

I admire Bono, and not just because he’s a good musician. I also respect the social activism that is grounded in his Christian faith.

The Dread Performer Kimberlin has taken to bad mouthing Bono over at the jtmp dot org website. (I read it so you don’t have to—even though my doing so probably doubles their legitimate web traffic.) You see, Bono wants to help feed the hungry in Africa, and he’s willing to partner with companies such as Monsanto in the process. Monsanto, of course, must be evil because they are a purveyor of GMO seeds. Bono, Brett would have us believe, is “selling out.”

Brett Kimberlin and his organizations oppose “Frankenfoods.” They would prefer to have upwards of a half-million children die each year from vitamin A deficiency rather than have golden rice available in poor countries. They would rather Africans starve than let them plant insect- or blight-resistance corn.

OTOH, poor Asian and African kids aren’t likely to hit a donate button on a JTMP or Velvet Revolution dot US webpage, whereas there may be a few anti-science moonbats who still donate.
