Team Kimberlin Post of the Day

One of the most amazing mistakes that Brett Kimberlin has made in his failed campaign of brass knuckles reputation management was recruiting Bill Schmalfeldt as one of his PR flacks. In addition to being ineffective at promoting Team Kimberlin’s interest, Schmalfeldt has been the source of much of the pointage, laughery, and mockification directed at Kimberlin and his minions. A Derp Brain Photo included in a post six years ago has been one of my favorite examples of Schmalfeldt unforced errors.

Cabin Boy Bill’s bio says he served during the Viet Nam era as Navy Medical Corpsman and that he did a tour with a Marine Corps unit. Based on that, I assume that he would have qualified with the M16 rifle and that he should still retain at least a passing familiarity with it and the Marines’ standards of safe gun handling.

Schmalfeldt has spent the past couple of days whining about an unfairly cropped photo which he says unjustly portrays him as “crazed and evil.” This image is an unedited copy of one he posted at Breitbart Unmasked.GE

The Four Rules of Gun Safety (as stated by Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, USMC Ret.) are

1. All firearms are always handled as if they were loaded.
2. Never point a firearm at anything you are unwilling to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until the sights are aligned on the target.
4. Be sure of your target.

This picture shows the Cabin Boy violating all four at once.

The picture clearly shows that Bill Schmalfeldt is irresponsible. The Gentle Reader may form his own opinions about “crazed” or “evil.”

The Cabin Boy™ claimed that the rifle belonged to his step son. If that’s the case, Schmalfeldt was probably breaking the law when that picture was taken. The rifle appears to have a 30-round magazine, and at the time the picture was taken, the maximum legal magazine capacity in Maryland was 20 rounds. While the step son may have bought the magazine while it was still legal and his possession of it might have been grandfathered in, it was not legal for the Cabin Boy™ to have it in his possession.

William’s Clean .45

Back in January, when Bill Schmalfeldt tweeted to some of us that he was going after our kids, my 25 year old son William did a guest post suggesting to the Cabin Boy that he would be a more appropriate target for Schmalfeldt to take on rather than some of the toddlers or even teenagers among our kids. William included a picture of himself so that Schmalfeldt would know who to come after.

Schmalfeldt insists that the picture constitutes a threat because it shows William cleaning a pistol. He keeps saying how he’s going to use it in court. Actually, he’s already tried. His lawyer showed the picture to me for identification while cross examining me during the 28 February peace order hearing. When I said, “That’s a picture of my son cleaning his .45,” he asked me if thought it was threatening. When answered, No,” he dropped that line of questioning without introducing the picture into evidence.

As you can see, the pistol is disassembled. I’ve labeled the major components. A field stripped pistol isn’t much of a threat.

One would think that, given his service as a Medical Corpsman with the Marines, Bill Schmalfeldt would have see enough field stripped pistols to recognize a picture of one.

OTOH, given the unsafe gun handling he demonstrates in this picture, he may not have learned much from the Marines after all.GEOne more thing … Someone’s gonna ask, so I’ll answer this now. It’s not a Model 1911. It’s a CZ97.

Team Kimberlin Post of the Day

One of the latest efforts of Brett Kimberlin’s Velvet Revolution US is a website called NRA Watch (No, I won’t link to it.) that is advocating for stricter gun control, including a ban on modern sporting rifles such as the AR15 and standard capacity magazines. Hold that thought while you read the following passage from page 173 of Mark Singer’s Citizen K:

To counter Kimberlin’s claim that he was temperamentally incapable of violence (“not prone to assaultive behavior”), for instance, the government cited the array of weapons that had been seized during the drug bust in Texas. Among them was a .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol equipped with a silencer. The testimony of Bixler placed this gun in Kimberlin’s hands, along with the half-dozen AR-15s he said he had bought the defendant.

At the time that he was busted while trying to smuggle 5 tons of dope in Texas, Brett Kimberlin was already a convicted felon, and it was illegal for him to possess any firearm. Did that law stop him? Straw purchases were against the law then as now. Did that stop him?

Do you think that he would have complied with a 10-round magazine limit for the AR15s he wasn’t supposed to have?

Me neither.
