This Hubble image show a portion of the open cluster NGC 6530, a collection of several thousand stars about 4350 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. The cluster is a part of the larger Lagoon Nebula, a gigantic interstellar cloud of gas and dust. It’s the nebula’s clouds that gives this image its smokey appearance.
