The James Webb Space Telescope’s NIRCam given us a new look atfthe protostar in the dark cloud L1527. The clouds within the Taurus star-forming region are only visible in infrared light, making it an ideal target for JWST’s Near-Infrared Camera. The protostar itself is actually hidden in the neck of the hourglass shaped clouds, but a protoplanetary disk is seen edge-on as a dark line across the middle of the neck. Light from the protostar illuminates cavities within the surrounding gas and dust.
