This infrared image taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope shows where the action is taking place in the ancient galaxy NGC 1291. Although the galaxy is around 12 billion years old, the outer ring (red in this view) is filled with new stars that are forming and heating up the surrounding dust that glows with infrared light.
