  1. If you’re talking about a certain EdD “dissertation” that I read, if I had been on the committee and had to read the whole thing (instead of merely rubber-stamping it unread) I would have been angry at someone. I have given better undergrad semester papers a B- for such work.
    But if you want to gag, check and see the length of the average EdD dissertation, including appendices. It can’t be much more than 50 pages, total.
    I wrote a dissertation that was heavily math/stat with a 30-page bibliography that clocked in at under 200 pages, and it was regarded as “brief” (as the Dean’s outside committee member called it — no math/stats whiz he).
    I know physicians who don’t particularly want to be called “Dr.” outside of work, but I don’t believe I’ve met more than a few EdDs who don’t demand to be.
