Omelettes, Eggs, Some Disassembly Required

“What’s your comfort number, Lefties?” asks The Phantom over at The Phantom Soapbox. Even before taking office, She Guevara has already threatened the President’s son with a subpoena because of an effective meme on Twitter, and Eric Swalwell has expressed a willingness to use nuclear weapons to enforce gun control. Both may be joking or speaking hyperbolically, but they tipped their hands. It’s clear that these socialists are willing to use government power to force through the social changes they want.

P. J. O’Rourke once suggested that we should not favor any government program that we were not willing to kill our own grandmother for. He reasoned that if she didn’t pay her taxes to support the program, the government would send an agent with a gun to collect the taxes and that further resistance could be fatal, so we only should support a government program if we really supported such an outcome. The Phantom wonders how many of our grandmothers these socialists are willing to sacrifice—

So there’s really only one question worth asking DemocRats in the USA and Liberals here: how many people are you willing to throw out of work to get your socialist plan enacted? How many will you imprison to enforce your regulation? How many senior citizens are you willing to freeze to death for your ecological fuel tax? How many resisters will you kill? Hmm?

One?
Ten?
Ten thousand?

The Communist’s answer was 100 million in the 20th Century. The entire nation of Canada, four times over, died for the myth of the Worker’s Paradise. The Chinese Communists are still at it.

  1. The scariest part of this is the magnitude. Once numbers get above a certain level most people have trouble understanding how big it is.
100 pennies vs 10 pennies? Yep, easy to see.
1e9 pennies vs 1e10 pennies? Each is too big to understand, so understanding the difference (yes, engineers understand immediately, but we “ain’t normal”).
I also believe is “they wouldn’t come for my family” is part of the mindset, but all you have to do is look at the left on left going on and “yep we could come for my grandmother”, but they don’t think like that.

  2. The following is fairly elementary, but it needs a review every so often.

Freedom requires limits on government. Without limits on government, the few who inhabit a government can do whatever they want the many, which includes removing civil rights from the citizenry.

Issues important to traditional American liberals – civil rights, voting rights, abortion rights – all require limits on government.

All of those rights, which traditional American liberals fought to make into reality, exist because our government was forced to accept, through the bill of rights amended to our constitutional, that our government has no right to control the citizenry.

But now traditional liberals are throwing in with new socialists who wish absolute government control over the population. Go figure.

Maybe, instead, traditional liberals could tell the new socialists what real oppression is – a government that abuses segments of the population because of race, gender orientation, marital status… the list goes on and on. For some reason, many new socialists approve of these types of abuses.

The new socialists will find out, one bad way or another, that government control is not really what they envisioned, and they’re not going to like it. But by then it might be too late, as it usually is once a socialist government takes absolute control over a population. Just ask Venezuela.
