This is a mosaic of Hubble Space Telescope images of the immense Coma cluster of over 1,000 galaxies. Its located 300 million light-years from Earth. Globular star clusters are snow-globe-shaped islands of several hundred thousand ancient stars, and their stars are among the oldest in the universe. A survey using Hubble images of the Coma cluster found 22,426 globular clusters scattered in the space between the galaxies. The star clusters have been orphaned from their home galaxies through galaxy tidal interactions within the cluster of galaxies.
