Newspapers in the old days did not pretend to be “neutral” or “unbiased” in the good old days. They were up front about their political persuasion and made no bones about it. Would that our modern media were more like those newspapers. If you wanted to know what was happening, you had to read different newspapers, just like we should check different web sites and even different news consolidation sites.
