I’m Not Making This Up, You Know

Campus Reform (H/T, Daley Gator) has a report of a guidance memo circulated by the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) at the University of Minnesota which states that “bows/wrapped gifts” are “not appropriate for gatherings and displays at this time of year.” The memo encourages employees to “consider neutral-themed parties such as ‘winter celebration,’” even suggesting avoiding color combinations associated with Christmas or Hanukkah. No red/green or blue/white.

A media contact for CFANS stated that that guidelines were used for conversation among faculty and staff, claiming they are “not policy” and “not for distribution.” Still, what kind of grinch … ?

Hmmm … someone needs to find a lump of coal in his stocking.

  1. It used to be that simply publicizing one’s Christianity was “offensive.”

Now, publicizing one’s Christianity or Judaism is “offensive.”

    Would that be considered progress?

And what is the school’s position of Ramadan or Kwanzaa?

    • One has to wonder what support they give to Muslims and Buddhists too. I suspect someone gets a completely different response than the others…

  2. If you live in an area where the majority identify as Christian and someone wishing you a merry Christmas causes you to be offended, the problem is you. Period.
