  1. John, did you see my comment on your post about NGC 4993?

    The issue is that “we” detected the gravity waves before the light waves. So the questions is: Did we detect the gravity waves first because we didn’t have to “see” them to notice them, or did the gravity waves travel faster than the light waves? Or maybe the gravity waves were produced first?


    • The gravity waves were produced as the collision took place. The light was produced as a result of the collision. My guess is that the leading edge of the gravity waves were produced before the leading edge of the electromagnetic waves (light). Also, the production of light continues from the remnant of the kilonova.
