Bitterly Clinging to Their …

… false narrative. The Left in Germany is having trouble dealing with the fallout from the New Year’s Eve sex crimes in Cologne and other cities. John Hinderaker has a post about the elite’s resistance to the unraveling of their narrative about recent immigrants.

Europe’s leftists are clinging bitterly to their illusions, in some instances actually trying to excuse the sex criminals. Some city officials have issued recommendations for how young women should act to avoid “provoking” rapists from “other cultures.” Will non-elite Europeans put up with such nonsense? I doubt it. In Europe, even more than in the U.S., fundamental transformation through mass immigration is a policy that the elites just can’t sell.

UPDATE—There’s something to be said for General Charles Napier‘s method of dealing with “other cultures” and their treatment of women.

  1. The “elites” ride in cars to their destinations, and usually are in venues with security. Young women at the train station? Not so much. The division between the elite and the normal is really astonishing – and the disconnect between the propaganda fed to young people and the reality they confront is absolutely astonishing.

This is not going to end well.

  2. I have always thought Napier’s response was one of the most pithy and witty responses to cultural relativism ever made.

By the way, I have found very few people who are cultural or moral relativists except when it aids their argument.

  3. The disconnect between the current elites and their constituents has been possible to cover up for at least the last 30 years or so. That’s no longer the case. The internet and blogs and twitter and so on have finished that. Thus, rather than responding appropriately the elites have indeed declared war on their constituents. And that totally explains Trump here.
