Zooming Into the Past

This video zooms into the galaxy cluster Abell 1689. The Hubble Space Telescope with a boost from the natural gravitational lensing of this cluster can faintly detect the remote galaxy A1689-zD1 seen just 700 million years after the beginning of our Universe.

  1. Hubble has produced many awesome images and furthered our understanding of not only astronomy but physics, chemistry and a host of other fields of study. It’s going to be a sad day when they de-orbit Hubble.

On the other hand we can look forward to the James Webb Space Telescope being launched in October 2018 (hopefully). That’s going to be exciting!
