Coming Out

Ana Marie Cox has come out of the closet. She’s a Christian.

Her understanding of all that means isn’t the same as mine, but at the deepest level it is.

What Christ teaches me, if I let myself be taught, is that there is only one kind of judgment that matters. I am saved not because of who I am or what I have done (or didn’t do), but simply because I have accepted the infinite grace that was always offered to me.

Read the whole thing.

Ms. Cox,

May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.

  1. May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
    Amen.
    If I may add:
May our Triune God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit impart their grace upon you and may the salvific act of Jesus on Calvary wash away all sin and make you white as snow.
We ask this blessing through Christ, Your Son and our Lord.
    Amen.

  2. She doesn’t say how long she’s been a Christian, but I get the sense it hasn’t been that long. It will be interesting to see where she goes from here in her professional and public life.

  3. Ms. Cox seems awfully concerned about the perception of Barack Obama’s “Christian” faith, and how such questions might reflect on her own. The fact that her faith will never receive 1/1000 the scrutiny of POTUS’ aside, I’d urge her to read Cathleen Falsani’s 2004 interview with Obama on the subject. After reading Obama’s description of and relationship with Christ, I’d ask Ms. Cox whether it aligns not just with her understanding of Christianity, but with any recognizable version of Christianity. I’d also suggest running the same analysis on Obama’s definition of sin.

Don’t get me started on Black Liberation Theology.

    • Heh. Obama follows ‘chrislam’, an unholy mix of Islam and Christianity. The worst parts of each mixed to an indistinguishable goopiness. Pure bunk. Just like what is preached in ‘Rev” Wright’s church.

  4. It’s interesting to me that her shields are still up over what conservatives will say about her. I say good for her, and I’m impressed that she “came out” (although the idea that coming out as a Christian is risky for a public figure is ironically horrible.) I’ll be looking to see if she receives any flack at all from mainstream conservatives- my guess is she won’t. Will she be insightful enough to question whether or not her narrow minded bubble has been lying to her all these years about what her tribe’s enemies are actually like?
