An X-Ray View of a Galactic Core

M31_Core_in_X-raysThis is an x-ray image of the center of M31 taken by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. A number of x-ray sources, likely x-ray binary stars, within the Andromeda Galaxy’s central region appear as yellowish dots. The blue source at the center is at the position of the supermassive black hole.
