A Selfie

Rosetta_selfieRosetta has snapped a selfie using a camera on its Philae lander.  The picture was taken on 7 September about 50 km from Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. It shows the side of the spacecraft and one of Rosetta’s 14 m-long solar wings. The comet is in the background.

  1. Looks like the probe’s camera wasn’t meant to take pictures of something as shiny as the arm of that solar panel.

  2. The low light capability has to be pretty good to make it look that shiny. It is doubtful that there is a light source on the probe (correct me if I’m wrong).

That has to be one of the coolest photo’s from our space probes in a long time.
