Don Pardo, R. I. P.

Don Pardo, who many younger folks knew as the off-stage voice of Saturday Night Live, has died. He was 96.

His career was quite diverse, ranging from war reporting to sports, news and advertising. He was the announcer for the original day-time version of Jeopardy and was the booth announcer on duty at NBC on 22 November, 1963, who read that network’s first bulletin on the shooting of President Kennedy.

  1. I knew there would be a third.

Almighty God, Father of mercies and giver of comfort:
Deal graciously, we pray thee, with all those who mourn, that
casting every care on thee, they may know the consolation of
thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ Episcopal Book of Common Prayer

  2. V: Let us pray for the repose of the soul of the departed servant of God, and that he may be pardoned all his sins, voluntary and involuntary.

That the Lord God will assign his soul to where the Just repose.

The mercies of God, the kingdom of heaven, and the forgiveness of his sins, let us ask of Christ, our immortal King and our God.

    R: Grant this, o Lord.

V: Let us pray to the Lord.

    R: Lord, have mercy.

V: For Thou art the resurrection, the life, and the repose of Thy departed servant, O Christ our God, and to Thee we send up glory, with Thy Eternal Father, and Thy all-holy and good and life-giving Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages.

    R: Amen
