This evening I agreed to go back to work full-time for a while. I was enjoying my semi-retirement, but my former colleagues working on the GOES-R program have persuaded me to rejoin them. I’ll begin on Monday at Goddard Space Flight Center.
GOES-R is the first of the next generation of weather satellites.

Have fun back in the harness. I worked up at Goddard a few times when I was involved in a plasma sensor for the Solar Probe, at least the one a few generations back and on a radiator panel for EO-1. Had to turn down work on a sensor for the current Solar Probe as I had other commitments that kept me tied up for a few years. Looks like APL is making some progress on the new version, perhaps it will get into space, much less ambitious than the one I worked on, but still a challenge.
Ditto!
Cool.
I’ve come out of retirement three times now – I think it is good to do so, particularly when the wife walks in, and announces “you’re getting BORING!”

Mine has said that she married me for better or for worse but not for lunch every day.
I’ve heard that line a couple of times, and I’m not even retired yet.
Congrats. Looks like a very cool endeavor.
