Chasing a Comet

This animation details the European Space Agency’s Rosetta‘s journey from launch in March, 2004, to rendezvous with comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in August 2014, including three flybys of Earth and one of Mars. By now, the spacecraft is about 9 million km from comet 67P/CG. By early May, Rosetta will be 2 million km from the comet, and, at the end of May, it will execute a major rendezvous manoeuvre to line up for orbit insertion at the start of August.
