Early yesterday, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory watched as a coronal mass ejection exploded from the Sun. It is unlikely to damage Comet ISON as it rounds the Sun today.

Early yesterday, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory watched as a coronal mass ejection exploded from the Sun. It is unlikely to damage Comet ISON as it rounds the Sun today.

Watching the live SOHO images, it looks most recently like the comet is beginning to disolve once is got in very close. The output from the tail has fizzled badly, but it is now so close that the blocking disks now obscure the comet.
We’ll see in an hour or two whether or not it emerges from the other side.
