Have the Progressive Bloggers Failed?

Progressive blogger Ian Welsh thinks so.

Unlike the Tea Party, most left wingers don’t really believe their own ideology. They put partisanship first, or they put the color of a candidate’s skin or the shape of their genitals over the candidate’s policy. Identity is more important to them than how many brown children that politician is killing.

So progressives have no power, because they have no principles: they cannot be expected to actually vote for the most progressive candidate, to successfully primary candidates, to care about policy first and identity second, to not take scraps from the table and sell out other progressive’s interests.

Hmmmm.

  1. I read the whole thing including the completely immune-to-irony comments. It is absolutely hilarious to read how progressives are just such complex deep thinking nuanced individuals, so it’s hard for them to promote issues unlike right wing issues which are driven by easily ginned up hatred for polarizing targets like blacks or women…so in the next sentence it’s perfectly legitimate to hate all “tea-baggers” because Rush Limbaugh and Koch Brothers and BUUUUUUUUUUSH!

You can not win a fight if you do not understand your enemy… so I for one am thrilled the “all Republicans are just being racist or sexist or homophobic” is still the progressives’ idee fixe. So long as progressive bloggers continue to publish fantasy, politicians that depend on voters who live in reality will continue to ignore them to their own advantage.
