BREAKING: #JesseJacksonJr in Arizona Rehab

MSNBC reports that Jesse Jackson, Jr., is being treated in a Arizona rehab.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE—The Chicago Tribune reports that Rep. Jackson’s wife denies that he is in a rehab. A statement from an unnamed doctor said that he was being treated for a “mood disorder.”

UPDATE 2—Mood Disorders (according to  the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders [DSM IV TR]) include Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, and Substance Induced Mood Disorders.

The Wikipedia article on Mood Disorders contains this:

A mood disorder can be classified as substance-induced if its etiology can be traced to the direct physiologic effects of a psychoactive drug or other chemical substance, or if the development of the mood disorder occurred contemporaneously with substance intoxication or withdrawal. Also, an individual may have a mood disorder coexisting with a substance abuse disorder. Substance-induced mood disorders can have features of a manic, hypomanic, mixed, or depressive episode. Most substances can induce a variety of mood disorders. For example, stimulants such as amphetamine, methamphetamine, and cocaine can cause manic, hypomanic, mixed, and depressive episodes.

UPDATE 3—Whatever Rep. Jackson’s illness might be, I wish him a speedy and complete recovery. If his mood disorder is substance-induced and he is being treated in a rehab, then his family and staff are doing him a great disservice by not telling the truth. It’s better to be silent than to lie.

How Is This Supposed to Work?

Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., suggests that the President simply put the 15 million or so unemployed on the federal payroll without bothering for Congress to authorize the expense.

Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution says,

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law …

How could the pay checks be legally written without Congressional authorization?

UPDATE–More here.

UPDATE 2–Prof. Reynolds calls for Jackson to resign. I lean more toward tar and feathers.

UPDATE 3–How could the pay checks be legally written without Congressional authorization? Silly me! I forgot who is running the Treasury.
