In a couple of previous posts I took a look at the amount of Occupancy expense claimed on the IRS Form 990s by TDPK’s not-for-profits from 2005 through 2010. The total is $173,075. That strikes me as a bit much for an operation that is run out of a corner of TDPK’s mother’s basement.
An emailer wonders whether or not the financial records of the Justice Through Music Project and Velvet Revolution US show that the payments in question were made to a third party landlord, utility vendors, etc. He also wonders if the landlord paid proper taxes on the profits of his rental property.
<mockery>Wasn’t it income tax evasion that caused Al Capone to wind up in Alcatraz?</mockery>
Hmmmm.
Tick, tock, tick, tock, …
Drop a dime to the IRS.
The ONLY way this can add up is if for certain parts of the year they actually worked outside of the basement. I highly doubt that happened, but it is possible.
I don’t think we will be able to find out the real answer to that until TDPK answers discovery….and even then we may not get to see it, as it sounds like Mr. Backer is putting what TDPK turns in as discovery under seal. It is most certainly one of the reasons why he is fighting discovery so much, I would think.
