Yesterday, my son and I went to the range to get in some practice. My original intention was to have go with Mrs. Hoge to zero in our hunting rifles for the fall, but she wound up working at an information booth for the Carroll County Forestry Board (she’s President) at our town’s Fall Fest.
So instead of a .270 Winchester, my range time this weekend was spent with a 9 mm Browning High Power. The target (a standard FBI Q target) was shot at 50 ft.
I need more practice.
Nine in the body, none in the head, always leaves the guy who killed you needing to buy new body armor.
Most people one might have to shoot in self defense aren’t going to be wearing body armor. Granted though, a double tap to the upper thoracic region plus a double tap to the cranial occipital region means your opponent is probable going to be dissuaded from continuing their attack on you.
As poor as that 14-round group is, it would fit well inside the “head” of that Q target.
I prefer to shoot a Model 1911.
I shoot a S&W model 5906 in the 9mm. 15 rd mag plus one in the chamber. That’s actually not a bad grouping from over 15 yards. Most self defense encounters will occur in less than 3 yards.
