Florence Green who served with the Royal Air Force for the last two months of World War I was the last known veteran of the First World War. She died in her sleep Saturday night. She joined the RAF at the age of 17. She would have been 111 on the 19th of February. She served as a mess steward with the RAF at bases in England.

And so the last of those who served almost a century ago has faded away.
